French Language classes are comprised of grammar, vocabulary, writing skills and conversational comprehension. A separate phonetics lab hones students' pronunciation and speaking skills. French Civilization classes cover various aspects of French culture from the Middle Ages to modern times.

Additionally, rooms with an internet connection are available. Please let us know if you plan to bring a laptop and would like to reserve a room with an internet connection.
Safety:
Upon acceptance into the program, a Health and Safety packet will be mailed to you. Your safety is of the utmost concern to Paris Summer Study. All US Paris Summer Study students are registered at the American Embassy in Paris. Additionally, Paris Summer Study monitors travel warnings from the US State Department. France (and Europe in general) have historically been safe destinations for Americans to travel.
Paris Summer Study reminds students that they will be living in France and therefore subject to local laws. Students are required to behave in a prudent and lawful manner. Paris Summer Study reserves the right to send home anyone who is behaving in an unlawful manner or otherwise jeopardizing their own or other's health and safety.
Cell Phones and Calling Home:
Most US cell phones do not work outside of the continental US. French mobile phones with 60 minutes of talk time are available to rent for a deposit of $100 and usage fee of $50. The $100 deposit is refunded upon return of the cell phone in good working order. French cell phone service can be expensive, however, no minutes are charged to receive a call. Sending text messages to the US is very cheap and easy to do with a French cell phone. Typically French cell phones work throughout Europe providing a level of safety when traveling abroad. Please note on your application form if you are interested in renting a cell phone.
Landlines are most practical for overseas calling. For this reason, Paris Summer Study provides you with an international phone card. Students may use these cards with the phones in their room. You are encouraged to use these cards to call home upon arrival to your room.
Scholarships:
One $500 and one $250 scholarship will be awarded this summer. Award of the scholarships will be determined based on a combination of GPA and a 500 – 600 word essay describing what you hope to get out of your study abroad experience.
